Sometimes drawings are freed from the constraints of the flat page. In 1998 my illustrations came to life on a watch by Swatch. I’ve made a metal tubular chair out of a clothes hanger, I designed a bicycle with four wheels, each facing one of the four cardinal points. If you can go in any direction you end up going nowhere. I’ve made a four-meter-high statue with a work-horse in Slochteren, Groningen, and the Quotation Marks glasses, which prompt their wearer to view the world with irony. I also made a mobile of a human figure with two hovering masks that can alternately hang above the body, thereby portraying different moods.
