TONEELSCHUUR THEATRE

Toneelschuur (theater shed) is a theater in Haarlem specializing in modern and avant-garde theater. In 1995 I designed their new house: two theaters, two cinemas, back-office facilities and a cafe. After the city council embraced my design it was developed further by Henk Döll of Mecanoo architects. I also designed the staff kitchen, the cafe’s layout, pictograms and an alphabet. The theater was inaugurated in 2003. The collaboration with Mecanoo was my grooming as an architect.
